Early roles compound. The first two years decide which problems you have seen, and seeing the wrong ones is expensive in a way that is invisible at the time. The good news is that the difference is usually detectable in the interview, if you ask.
Questions that reveal the answer
- Who will review my work, and how often? A role with no reviewer is not a junior role.
- What did the last person in this role go on to do?
- What will I be expected to own alone after six months?
- How does the team decide what to build?

A junior role without a reviewer is not a job that will teach you anything. It is a senior role at a junior salary, and it will be described as an opportunity.
