Building a company profile that gets found

1 min read

A directory listing only works if it can be found and then believed. Those are two different jobs, and most profiles do neither — not because the company is uninteresting, but because the fields that answer a reader's first questions were left blank.

Fill in the boring fields first

Industry, headcount, location and whether you are hiring are the filters people search with. A profile missing them is invisible to anybody browsing rather than searching by name.

A logo matters more than it should. A listing without one reads as abandoned.

The summary is the one piece of free text most readers will see, so it should say what you build and for whom, not what you value.

Specifics beat adjectives everywhere on this page.

Show the work

  • Published projects and case studies give a reader something to judge.
  • Named technologies help the right people find you and the wrong ones rule themselves out.
  • Reviews from people you have worked with carry more weight than any claim you make yourself.

The best company profiles read like an honest answer to "what would I actually be doing here?" — which is the question every visitor arrived with.
